What is a Wiki?

A Wiki is a community / collaboration tool. Several authors can create a network of linked HTML files. Wikis are useful for creating documentations or collecting knowledge in a team. A Wiki page is written using a web browser, a special syntax is applied to handle the mark-up of HTML. The server will convert such a page into nice HTML. If you want to know more about the syntax, look at the TextRules. Got no time? Well, try the SimpleTextRules!

The idea of a Wiki comes from »Ward Cunningham. At his website you will find many information about Wikis and links to other Wiki communities and implementations. The page Links informs about other Wikis and related web sites.

About PWP Wiki Processor

This software is licensed under the General Public License (GPL). See »LICENSE for all details.

The PWP Wiki Processor uses flat files, no database is required. It can create a static HTML snapshot out of it's contents. PWP supports the management of uploaded files. It may also be used as a simple content management system (CMS). With it's ability to create calendar pages PWP can be used as a web log (blogging). For more details have a look at the Features.

Hey, where is the EDIT button?

This Wiki here is not intended to provide it's functionality for a web community discussing various themes. It should provide the Wiki software 'PWP Wiki Processor' and inform about the usage.

If I would provide an open Wiki, I could be made responsible for things other people write - unless I check all pages regularly for four letter words and similar stuff. These are the rules here in Germany. Well, I'm not keen on having to look through all pages every week...

So, there is no public edit button - you are looking at static HTML pages, generated by the 'PWP Wiki Processor'. More about this is to be found in the Features description.

Why another Wiki?

I was looking for a PHP or Perl based Wiki that matched my needs. »UseMod is very close - I like it! But I don't like the idea of more than 4.000 lines of Perl code in one single file being loaded on every CGI call. I did not want to use a database backed Wiki. Other flat file Wikis weren't documented or are still at some Beta 0.0.x version. Well, I had to write my own Wiki!

Here is the result: A PHP powered Wiki using flat files as data storage, built to run on cheap web packages.
